FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I MAKE A PURCHASE?
Browse thru the titles available. Musical genres are placed near the top left hand corner of the main page. Email me that titles wanted at helterskelter_kl@yahoo.com to confirm availability. Because this is a one man circus, sometimes I don’t have time or may have overlooked to update the ones sold. I will email back to you to confirm availability of the titles. Some of the prices for postings in 2009-2009 are no longer valid. Please enquire for current pric

MAIL ORDERS
Due to the significant increase in gas/fuel price, we highly recommend this method as a cost effective way of shopping. Why waste time driving here and there and pay for parking searching for a title? We have thousands of titles listed and graded, so browse at your convenience. Your purchase is just a bank transfer away. For mail orders, I will email the bank account info. After the funds has been deposited, you will need to email me the address for the item(s) to be sent to. Once the deposit has been confirmed, the package will be dispatched to the address provided via Poslaju. It usually takes a day to reach most places. LPs will be securely packed in a thick cardboard box to ensure safety. Combined shipping discount will be given for multiple LPs/CDs purchase

CAN I LOOK AT THE RECORD CONDITION BEFORE BUYING?
Yes, Just email me the titles and set up an appointment to view the items. This luxury is not applicable to new/sealed items.

WHAT IF I WANT TO PICK UP THE RECORDS MYSELF?
For Pick Up, You need to make an appointment with me. Pick up points will be at Carrefour, Jalan Peel Cheras (Monday to Saturdays) or Amcorp mall PJ (Sundays) HOW DO I PAY? Method of payment accepted are, Cash, Bank In or Trade in of old LPs, CDs, etc.

I WANT TO SELL MY RECORDS, CDs ETC.. DO YOU BUY?
Just call or email me. If you have not many titles, we can meet up somewhere or if you r collection is reasonably huge 200 pieces and above, i can come over your place (within KL). Prices offered will be dependent on the condition, titles, saleability, market forces and existing stock.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR RECORDS FROM ?
I’ve been collecting LPs for almost 20 years and many of my LPs are imported directly from the United States , the UK and recently, Japan. I also acquire and source some locally. So dont throw away your unwanted records.

HOW DO YOU PRICE YOUR USED VINYLS
This is a very subjective method. I normally subcribe to the basic formula of artist, title, condition, pressing, marketability and existing stock. Some artists may be in demand at this moment but 3 months later theres a glut in the market while others stay in demand throughout. If a title is imported, price will generally be higher as i have to take into account the importation costs involved. These would be the item price, shipping and handling charges to transport these heavy LPs, customs and clearance and storage charges. On top of that i would have to factor in the risk of damage & theft by unscrupulous chimpazees, product misrepresentation and day to day operating expenses . After all this, i still have to make money at the end of the day..

HOW DO YOU PRICE YOUR NEW VINYLS
I can get almost all of the new releases on vinyl or titles that are still in print. New titles also follow the same guideline as preowned ones with the main difference being that their item price cost and shipping is much higher due to the heavier weight (180g, 200g etc). As an added benefit (for me), a speculative factor will also be the main determinant of the price of new release. An item in print can be priced at X but once it becomes out of print, it can be worth (not necessarily priced) 2X, 5X etc.

CAN YOU NOT GET NEW RELEASES FROM LOCAL SUPPLIERS AND KEEP THE PRICE MINIMAL?
In a perfect world maybe. Unfortunately we live in Loserville and i have experienced conduct and business practices that is the most unprofessional and unethical coming from the local "distributors". Perhaps it is my paranaoia or the actual existence of discrimination and collusion against small bumi business entities, i find my transactions with these middlemen/records labels to be most unsatisfactory. There is a lot of talk and not enough follow through.

I’M LOOKING FOR SOME TITLES THAT ARE NOT ON YOUR WEBSITE
Just email me the titles and I’ll try to source for you. I can get most newly issued titles. This usually takes a few weeks to order. In order to safeguard myself and to differentiate serious buyers from timewasters, a deposit is required for special orders.

RESERVATION, BOOKING & LAYAWAY
Most items are available on first come first serve basis so it is best to grab them while you can. Some record titles, pressings and conditions rarely appears that to miss it means waiting for an unknown period of time for another to surface. Reservations can be made by placing a nonrefundable deposit with a gentleman's agreement to settle the remainder within a stipulated time period agreed upon between buyer and seller. Failure to pay the full amount would mean total forfeiture of the deposit and the item will be back up for grabs again.
